I tried to combine the feeling of older 3D platformers with some fast-paced fps combat.

It's my first UE project and I learned a lot in the process. All the models, textures and animtions were done by me, and making assets that had to fit togheter well across many levels was a nice challenge.

There is an issue with the final boss that makes it impossible to beat, when I load my save to fight it, the platforms you are supposed to go on are all invisible or already destroyed. This makes it so it is impossible to kill the enemy minions without expending a lot of ammo and the boss seems to awake when there is one enemy left, which makes it difficult to focus on the boss. The fact the platforms are gone means it’s only a matter of time before the boss inevitably kills you. (I was able to get the platforms to spawn once but they never did spawn again).


The fact there is no HUD makes it difficult to gauge how much damage you’re taking during the fight as well especially when the damage is not clear sometimes. Also an instant restart feature would’ve been appreciated as it’s not convenient having to close and reload the game a lot.


Besides these issues, the game throughout was extremely fun and challenging in a fair way throughout. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and platforming, and combat throughout reminded me of Painkiller or Doom which I really enjoyed. The controls were a bit slippery but I got used to them pretty quickly.  

Also is there an end screen? I’m curious as to what it is.

As to the problems you mentioned I fixed the HUD not being there (my stupid mistake that for some reason didn't show up while testing), but I was unable to replicate the issue with platforms during boss fight, I tested it a few times again and they always respawned when I loaded the save. As to the closing and reloading of the game, the UI dissapering also meant no death screen, sorry about that, it's all in place now.

All in all, I'm really glad you liked it, I played Painkiller a lot in my childhood and the new Doom games are among my favorites from recent years, so I'm glad a I was able to capture a little bit of that feel :)

P.S. I applaud you for playing to the End regardless of the UI bug, I would have probably gave up :D

Thanks for answering my questions. I really appreciate it. I guess my save is bugged or there’s something incompatible about my machine, but thanks for showing the end screen, I figured it was going to be a simple you win message. I love old school FPSes a lot, and played them a lot in the past, which made the combat sections feel right at home for me.

Edit: upon downloading the latest version, the platforms loaded and I was able to defeat the boss after focusing fire to the head. Thanks for the fix to the tips and HUD! That fight became much easier after learning what to do.
